Picture yourself lying in this hammock on a Sunday afternoon with the band playing and a chilled rum punch in your right hand after a sumptuous lunch of fine French cuisine. Ah, bliss! This must be Catherine’s Café Plage.
Renowned as one of the best restaurants in Antigua, Catherine’s Café Plage does not disappoint.
Unwittingly, I photographed only the desserts, but I have to say that the main courses are just as pretty.
I chose Iles Flottantes, which were as light as air, a crème that was not too sweet and left me feeling like I could still bare my bikini body after a 2 course lunch without humiliation.
Dear chef Jean Stouvenel, your creations are sublime!
The huge grin says it all.
The décor is classic, chic and elegant. You will feel better if you are wearing your very best bikini and cover-up to eat here, but there is no dress code. Bare sandy feet are the norm. The owners, Guillaume and Claudine, have hit on a winning formula of casual beach dining to the highest standards.
In the walk to the restaurant from the road side of Pigeon Beach you are greeted by 2 charming little shops – on one side the 727 sailbags specialists, selling gorgeous bags made from recycled sails in France. On the other side, you will find a delightful boutique of beachwear for all ages.
The restaurant is closed on Tuesdays and is renowned primarily for their lunch, although they are also open for dinner on Wednesday and Friday night to much joy from regular and visiting customers alike.
Allow yourself to be seduced by Catherine’s Plage magic on a Sunday afternoon with lunch followed by live music on the beach and some mellow French wine or cleverly mixed rum punch and enjoy watching the sunset as you wonder what lucky star you fell under to allow you such pleasure!
I would recommend reserving your table in advance as this is a hugely popular venue!
