Notes from a Lily Pond

Posted on January 23, 2017 by Jennifer Ritchie

A colourful life in far flung lands yet ideals of the green, green grass of home: advice comes in different forms, solicited or unsolicited, a movie, a valued friend, a letter, a book, a newspaper article, sometimes dreams.

Jennie

Join me, Jennie Ritchie, as I explore Antigua. Two years ago an opportunity beckoned me to this rock in the Caribbean! It’s friendly people, idyllic beaches, eclectic bar scene and especially the really exquisite artists and designers have enticed me to stay. Modern Antigua is an island of surprises where you can laze on deserted beaches or party with the locals in the heritage listed dockyard, sail into delicate coves, swim with stingrays or zipline over the rainforest canopy.
Book your tickets asap as there is nothing like an icy cold rum punch listening to the calypso music as you look from your verandah towards the shimmering cobalt blue sea views dusted with fringed palm trees and delicate sand beaches.

Another dreamy Irish sunset from my seaside home. What a glorious way to end the day before lighting the fire as the cold starts to invade. It’s a beautiful time of year now as the days begin to stretch out and the garden begs to be planted. My sweet pea seedlings have just hatched in the laundry but they’ll live inside for a month yet - the snow cane at the end of February last year. #sunset #irelandgram #lovewhereyoulive #glassishalffull #enjoyingthemoment #gardendreams #seeingthepretty
Trees, trees, glorious trees! Feeling a little Spring-ish with the blue skies and birdsong. Love my afternoon dog walks, most of the time. At least it gets me outside, not sure if I would be as much if I didn’t have to, and that would be a shame. Dinner might be more on time though! #instaireland #ireland #trees #nature_brilliance #naturephotography #irishblogger #botanicalstyle #walkinginnature #forest_masters #naturelovers #walkonthewildside
The Feis ... a learning curve on life back at home in Ireland! I never did Irish dancing as a kid, and really wished I had when I grew up and started to travel - everyone wanted to see something of Ireland and I had nothing special to hand. Not to let the next generation slip, we launched ourselves into the Irish dancing community and discovered a whole underworld of #dancemoms and sparkling glitzy glamour and desperate competitiveness! Welcome to the Feis ... Sunday’s are now spent in hotels and GAA halls with hairspray, sequins and wigs. Shamed to admit how much fun it is! #movinghome #athomeinireland #feis #irishdance #dancing #sequinsandthings #alltheglitter #dancingwiththestars #diaspora #irishblogger #irish #ireland #lifeinireland #whatsthecraic
Proud and happy Momma - my boy away skiing and out with his buddies Swiss style. Bit peeved that the girls can’t be there this time, but c’est la vie ⛷❄️🎿🤩❤️. #snowysnow #skikids
January beach days! I never thought that I would say that, but how lovely is this? The cold wind howled around us but the sun was shining in a clear sky, the tide was starting to come in and we ran in the wind, marveling at how beautiful it was all around us. Ricky didn’t want to leave, he is in his happy place here! Fun times. #beachdays #beachinjanuary #beachlife #islandlife #irishblogger #athome #homesweethome #diaspora #dachsundsofinstagram #wienerdog #dachshundsrule #dachshundsonly #featuremydach #featuremydachshund #mydog #ireland #irish
My birthday flowers are fading - in fact they were a gift from the florist - he said they were old and would soon be thrown away. Instead they have lasted more than a week and still make me happy even though they are a little tired now. But we have plans to use the petals in a DIY paper making project. Happy days 😉🥀 #moodygrams #floraldesign #ihavethisthingwithflowers #flowerday #alltheprettyflorals #botanicalstyle #darkgrammer #athome #makingahouseahome #ireland #floristic #florist #fleurie #fleury
